Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
